Interesting time periods?

I adore history more than Romans loved to conquer! As I mentioned in another question, I'm thinking about posting some stories or something. I'd like to do something historical. I'm partial to the time periods between Victorian era to WWII, which is broad, but what are some good specific time periods to write about?
